OP isn’t asking if half life is worth getting, only if it’s worth getting on steam, or if steam versions are buggy compared to a metaphorical out of the box versions. (Which is a valid question since steam versions are indeed worse then cd ones) Yes. Absolutely yes. Completely functional right out of the install. Sadly, no, it's just the original game, plus some areas are modified, so it's not a 1:1 recreation. Still, for the story alone, it's well worth it, and it's a damn great remake; the thinks they changed actually improve the game a lot, and I say that even though the original Half-Life is my favourite game of all time. The game has aged a fair bit, but I feel it's still worth playing. I get why it's so iconic. I'd give it a 8.5/10. I get why it was a 10/10 in 1998, but I didn't get 10/10 enjoyment out of it in 2023. Although I didn't play the Half-Life franchise before, I knew how highly people regarded them, especially HL2.
